How It Is Calculated
The formula behind the numbers.
Formula
EMI = P × r × (1+r)n ÷ ((1+r)n − 1)
- P = loan amount (principal)
- r = monthly rate = annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100
- n = tenure in months
- Example: ₹25 lakh at 8.5% for 20 years = ₹21,696 EMI
EMI Calculator FAQs
Common questions answered.
What is an EMI?
An Equated Monthly Instalment is the fixed amount you pay each month to repay a loan. Each EMI has an interest part and a principal part; early EMIs are mostly interest.
Does a longer tenure reduce the cost of the loan?
A longer tenure lowers your EMI but increases the total interest you pay. Use the schedule to compare tenures.
Is the EMI the same for floating-rate loans?
For floating-rate loans, the lender may change the EMI or the tenure when the benchmark rate changes.
